This short and busy life often requires me to train my legs for Balinese dance while washing the dishes. Likewise, when I practice improvisation and finger technique on the piano, I sometimes incorporate rhythmic footwork sequences from a 12-beat bar soleá that I have to memorize to teach during my next dance class.

Conversely, during body exercises, I strive to keep my mind focused on other tasks, such as understanding the harmonic structures of the music I am listening to.

It's not easy; sometimes I even forget to breathe. Nevertheless, I enjoy the challenge. And the interplay between disciplines and practices makes my training much more effective. This principle also applies to teaching.
